HaBS Staff Awards

The Faculty is committed to encouraging research excellence, innovation, and creativity in its researchers to help them achieve success, and the Research Awards recognise members of staff who have made outstanding contributions to its research activities. 

Below are the categories of awards in which research staff may be recognised.

  • Early Career Research Excellence

    Value: $3000 (2 maximum)

    The Early Career Research Excellence Award recognises an outstanding research contribution made by a researcher from HaBS who was awarded their PhD within the last eight years. Taking into account that the applicant is early in their career, the award recipient will have made a contribution in their field of research. 

    Eligibility:

    • Academic and Research Professional staff.
    • Awarded PhD in the last eight years.
    • Holding at least a 0.5 FTE paid appointment within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    • Outstanding commitment to a research career.
    • Potential to make a major contribution in a field of research.

     

    Submit an Early Career Research Excellence Award Nomination

  • Research Translation

    Value: $3000 (2 maximum)

    The Research Translation Award recognises the efforts of a researcher from HaBS who has ensured that their research is translated into benefits for the broader community beyond academia. The award recipient will have demonstrated impact, innovation, and initiative in developing a new product or service or making changes to practice or policy, based on research outcomes. 

    Eligibility:

    • Academic and Research Professional staff.
    • Holding at least a 0.5 FTE paid appointment within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    • Outstanding commitment to a research career.
    • Potential to make a major contribution in a field of research.
    • Commitment to ensuring the results of their research are producing benefits for the wider community.

     

    Submit a Research Translation Award Nomination

     

  • Higher Degree Research Supervision

    Value: $3000 (2 maximum)

    The Higher Degree Research Supervision Award recognises outstanding levels of performance in the supervision, mentoring, and training of Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates by a supervisor from HaBS. This award forms a pipeline to the UQ Awards for Excellence in Higher Degree by Research Supervision.

    Either self-nominations or other-nominations will be considered. 

    Eligibility:

    • Academic staff.
    • Holding at least a 0.5 FTE appointment within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.
    • Minimum of three years’ experience within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences in the supervising, mentoring and/or training of HDR students at UQ.
    • Listed on the UQ Principal Advisor registry.

    Nominations should demonstrate:

    • Outstanding commitment to a research career.
    • Outstanding contribution and level of performance in the supervision, mentoring, and training of research higher degree candidates.

     

    Submit a Higher Degree Research Supervision Award Nomination

  • Research Mentorship

    Value: $3000 

    The Research Mentorship Award recognises the ability of a researcher from HaBS to serve as a role model, and create a research environment that is aspirational, generative of opportunities for students’ and junior colleagues’ future research career development, and reflects and supports the values of UQ. 

    An individual may be nominated by one or more staff members or Higher Degree Research students (nominator) for a HaBS Research Mentorship Award. Self-nominations are not eligible. 

    Eligibility:

    • Academic staff.
    • Holding at least a 0.5 FTE appointment within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.
    • Please note: Emeritus and Honorary staff are eligible to be considered for the Research Mentorship Award.

    Nominations should demonstrate:

    • Outstanding commitment to a research career.
    • Creation of a research environment that is aspirational, generative of opportunities for students’ and junior colleagues’ future research career development, and reflects and supports the values of UQ.

  • Leadership

    Value: $3000 (one award across Teaching & Learning and Research)

    Eligibility: Academic staff

    The Leadership Award recognises the exemplary leadership of academic staff from the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences who help to create a positive, performance-based culture, and contribute to the achievements of the Faculty. 

    Nominations should demonstrate:
     An individual who inspires employees to focus their individual talents on the goals of the organisation and to contribute at the highest level. This leader values people and is a guardian of the culture and exemplars in living the organisation’s values. This leader thinks and works strategically; achieves results, drives accountability and fosters learning.

  • Global Engagement

    Value: $3000 (one award across Teaching & Learning and Research)

    Eligibility: Academic staff
     

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    Strengthening UQ’s internationalisation through, teaching, research, programs and/or projects. Encouraging and promoting overseas student and/or staff mobility internationalisation with community engagement and impact.

Terms and conditions: 

  1. Previous winners of a UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award, or past Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences Research and Innovation Awards, or Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences Research and Innovation Awards are not eligible for the HaBS Early Career Research Excellence Award or Research Translation Award.
  2. Previous winners (or commendation recipients) of a UQ Award for Excellence in Research Higher Degree Supervision are not eligible for the HaBS Research Higher Degree Supervision Award.
  3. A recipient of a HaBS Research Mentorship Award is only eligible for re-nomination in subsequent years on the basis of new achievements.
