The Health and Behavioural Sciences Faculty Research Office (FRO) is dedicated to supporting our staff and students to achieve their full potential in research. 

We provide staff and students in the Faculty with information, advice and support concerning all aspects of research, including grant applications, funding opportunities, research development, contract management, commercialisation, and Intellectual Property (IP) issues, as well as advocacy through awards and recognition, and practical workshops.

Research grant support

We are available all year round to provide assistance and support for all aspects of grant applications, including interpreting eligibility rules, scoping the project, preparing the application, budgeting, contractual and IP matters, submissions, rejoinders and project planning. We offer:

  • ARC and NHMRC grant and fellowship grant writing assistance and detailed feedback through our Grant Readership Program
  • Support with preparing ARC and NHMRC rebuttals and rejoinders
  • Grant Development Workshops, where we provide feedback and support for planned grant applications in the next year’s major rounds
  • Ad hoc assistance and advice on all other grant rounds, any time of the year
  • Assistance and advice in all aspects of research budget preparations and expenditure
  • Advice on commercialisation matters, IP and copyright, and research contracts with commercial and not-for-profit partners

Workshops and communication

We provide workshops and ongoing education to support researchers.

  • Grantober: a coordinated series of workshops throughout October, on all aspects of ARC and NHMRC grant development and writing, including writing style, budgeting, use of research performance metrics and more
  • Other workshops throughout the year, including introduction to postdoctoral research fellowships, data management and other topics
