Below are the categories of awards in which teaching and learning staff may be recognised.

All awards are application based, rather than being open to nominations. Select the category you wish to apply for, then the button to direct you to an application form. 

 

  • Teaching Excellence

    General eligibility

    • Applications are open to all academic staff within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences. 
    • Both individual and team applications are accepted. All teams must provide a team name. 
    • Applicants must ordinarily have a minimum of two years of academic teaching-related employment at The University of Queensland (NB: UQ ATE require three years). 
    • An application that is considered to be more closely aligned with the criteria for a Citation (COCSL) award may be referred to the COCSL Selection Committee for consideration in the same year.
    • A winner of a Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence may only be a recipient of a Faculty Citation award in the same year, if they are part of a team application and are not the lead applicant.
    • Online applications must be submitted attaching a completed 2017 application template.
    • Previously unsuccessful applicants can re-apply.

    Eligibility of previous recipients

    • Previous winners of a Faculty, UQ or National Citation award are eligible to apply for a Faculty ATE.
    • Previous winners of the Faculty, UQ, or National Teaching Excellence awards are not eligible for nomination in this category, with the exception of:
      • Previous recipients of ATE are eligible to reapply for an award if they form part of a team application and are not the lead applicant; the team application should not substantially replicate the original award.
      • Members of teams that have received ATE awards are eligible to reapply; the application should not substantially replicate the original award.

  • Programs that Enhance Learning

    General eligibility

    • Application is open to all projects, teams and services that enhance student learning in the Faculty of Health & Behavioural Sciences. It is intended that eligible programs are broader than one or two courses or a limited team or service that involves only a few students. For example, applications may involve a project, team or service provided at the faculty or school level, a program of study across a year or number of years, a service or project directed at particular groups of students.
    • Teams may consist of academic and/or professional staff.
    • Teams may be of any size. All teams must provide a team name. 
    • All applications must relate to projects, teams or services that have been sustained for a period of at least two years (NB: UQ APEL require three years).
    • Cross-faculty, cross-school/unit or cross-discipline applications will be considered.
    • An application which is considered to be more closely aligned with the criteria for a Citation (COCSL) or an Award for Teaching Excellence (ATE) may be referred to those Award Selection Committees for consideration in the same year.
    • A winner of a Faculty of Health and Behavioural Science Awards for Teaching Excellence (ATE) may only be the recipient of a Faculty of Health and Behavioural Science APEL in the same year, if they form part of a team application and are not the lead applicant.
    • Online applications must be submitted attaching a completed 2017 application template.
    • Previously unsuccessful applicants can re-apply.

    Eligibility of previous recipients

    • Projects, teams or services that are previous winners of a Faculty, UQ or National Award APEL scheme are not eligible to re-apply.
    • Recipients of an APEL in the Faculty, UQ or National Award schemes can only reapply if they form part of a team application and are not the lead applicant. The new application should be for a project, team or service that does not substantially replicate the original award.

  • Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, including Early Career Citations

    General eligibility

    • Applications are open to academic staff, professional staff and sessional teaching staff.
    • To be eligible for the early career award, academic staff, professional staff and sessional teaching staff^ at the time of the application, must have been employed at UQ for 5 years or less. The five years can be non-sequential and must be counted on a semester basis.
    • Both individual and team applications are encouraged (teams may be of any size). All teams must provide a team name. Applicants are not eligible to be included in more than one COCSL application in any year (as an individual and as a member of a team).
    • All members of a team for the early career award must fit the early career criteria.
    • Cross-faculty, cross-school/unit or cross-discipline applications will be considered.
    • All applications must relate to contributions to student learning at The University of Queensland that have been sustained for a period of at least two years. 
    • Online applications must be submitted attaching a completed 2017 application template.
    • Previously unsuccessful applicants of an equivalent teaching award can re-apply.

    ^ An applicant who is a member of sessional staff is eligible to apply as the lead applicant if he/she has had four semesters of employment at The University of Queensland (not necessarily continuous) in the context of the contribution to student learning. There is no minimum hours-per-semester employment specification for sessional staff to be eligible to apply.

    Eligibility of previous recipients

    • Previous winners of Faculty, UQ or National Citations or Early Career Teaching Awards are not eligible for application in this category.
    • Previous winners of Faculty, UQ or National Teaching Excellence Awards are not eligible for application in this category.
    • Previous team winners of Faculty Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning (APEL) are eligible to apply for a Citation. They must demonstrate significantly different achievements from the work that has been previously recognised by the Faculty APEL.

  • Tutor and Demonstrator

    General eligibility 

    • Applications are open to tutors or demonstrators who, at the time of the application, have taught for a minimum of two full semesters in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.
    • Online applications must be submitted attaching a completed 2017 application template.
    • Applications are open to individuals only.
    • Previously unsuccessful applicants of an equivalent award can reapply.

    Eligibility of previous recipients

    Previous winners of Faculty of Social & Behavioural Sciences and HaBS Tutor Award are not eligible to reapply in this category.

  • Leadership

    Eligibility: Professional Staff HEW 1-10.

    The Leadership award is to recognise the exemplary leadership of professional staff from the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences who help to create a positive, performance-based culture, and contribute to the achievements of the Faculty. 

    Nominations should demonstrate:
    An individual who inspire employees to focus their individual talents on the goals of the organisation and to contribute at the highest level. This leader values people and is a guardian of the culture and exemplars in living the organisation’s values. This leader thinks and works strategically; achieves results, drives accountability and fosters learning.

  • Global Engagement

    Eligibility: All academic staff

    The Engagement award is to recognise the efforts of academic staff from the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences who have demonstrated ongoing global engagement throughout the year. 

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    • Strengthening UQ’s internationalisation through, teaching, research, programs and/or projects.
    • Encouraging and promoting overseas student and/or staff mobility internationalisation with community engagement and impact.
