The University of Queensland has been ranked in the global top 20 in five academic subject areas in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject, reflecting UQ’s research and teaching capabilities.
The University was ranked among the world’s best in 50 of the 54 subjects assessed, the highest number for an Australian university.
UQ maintained its position as first in Australia and second in the world for sports-related courses, underscoring the University’s role in helping Queensland to prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Within Australia, UQ was also ranked number one across Agriculture and Forestry, and Environmental Sciences.
The University was number two nationally for Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences and Hospitality and Leisure Management.
UQ achieved 16 subjects ranked in the global top 50, including:
- Sports-related subjects (2nd)
- Mineral and Mining Engineering (5th)
- Agriculture and Forestry (19th)
- Petroleum Engineering (20th)
- Environmental Sciences (20th)
- Pharmacy and Pharmacology (23rd)
- Hospitality and Leisure Management (27th)
- Psychology (30th)
- Nursing (33rd)
- Anatomy and Physiology (34th)
- Education and Training (40th)
- Veterinary Sciences (44th)
- Civil and Structural Engineering (45th)
- Sociology (46th)
- Development Studies (47th)
- Chemical Engineering (50th).
The QS ranking rated universities using a range of indicators and data including academic and employer reputation, citations to research papers, the H-Index of research and international collaboration.
The 2023 ranking spanned 15,700 different academic programmes from 1,594 global institutions.
