Prepare for your Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences placement
As a student studying in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences, you will complete clinical and/or industry placements throughout your program. This is the first step in your journey to becoming a professional.
Rural and regional placements
Broaden your horizons. Get firsthand experience of life in rural and regional Australia, and find out how people who live in these communities access healthcare services.
Get ready for your placement
Before you can go on placement, there are requirements that you must meet to ensure that you are placement-ready. Here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Start early
There is a lot to do so you should allow yourself plenty of time to complete these tasks. Start at least 3 months before your placement and take note of the approximate timeframes for completion.
We’ll email you initially and send reminders, but it’s your responsibility to complete your requirements on time. You will need to be well organised and methodical to ensure that you are ready to commence your placement by the deadline.
You must complete all requirements by the deadline listed with your requirements. If you don't, you may not be able to attend your placement and it may significantly impact your ability to progress through your program.
Step 2: Complete your requirements
The requirements you will need to complete before your placement will depend on your discipline and where you are completing your placement. Many of them are things you will need to maintain for the rest of your career. If you don't meet the requirements, you may not be able to complete your placement and progress in your program.

Step 3: Provide evidence that you've completed your requirements
You'll need to provide evidence that you've met all the requirements by the deadline.
In most cases, you'll need to upload documents to InPlace so we can review them. But not all compliance requirements are submitted via InPlace. You should review your discipline’s pre-placement requirements to determine what you need to do and when.
Should you need to provide evidence to your placement of your compliance, please download the compliance letter via 'Shared Documents' on your InPlace.
Using InPlace
To get access to InPlace, you must enrol in your placement course.
Watch the video for information about how to navigate InPlace and submit your documents.
If you don't meet the requirements
You will be required to undertake placements as part of your program. It is important that you understand this before making decisions about your enrolment.
A placement provider may impose mandatory requirements for undertaking placement with them. Examples include providing evidence that you've received a particular vaccination or obtained a relevant clearance for working with children.
If you are unable or unwilling to meet a mandatory requirement imposed by a placement provider, we will take reasonable steps to explore alternative placement options for you. However, if, after making reasonable enquiries, we are not able to find an appropriate alternative provider, you may not be able to progress in your program.
You will only be able to proceed if either:
- you decide, or become able, to comply with a mandatory requirement imposed by an appropriate placement provider, or
- a placement provider indicates that the condition imposed is no longer mandatory.
