Associate Professor Neil Cottrell

As Director, Interprofessional Education, Neil is responsible for strategic oversight of the Faculty’s portfolio of interprofessional education activities.
Prior to joining UQ, Neil was a clinical pharmacy practitioner and leader at teaching hospitals in the United Kingdom. In 1998 Neil moved to Australia where he was appointed as the Assistant Director of Pharmacy at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Neil joined the School of Pharmacy at UQ in 2001. Neil’s teaching responsibilities included teaching cardiovascular disease therapeutics and as the course coordinator for a capstone course for the final year pharmacy students, preparing them for practice. In 2010, Neil was seconded to UQ Greenslopes Clinical School (2010-2012) where he led an interprofessional group from medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and pharmacy to develop and successfully implement an Interprofessional Curriculum for students. Neil’s sustained excellence in teaching and curriculum development was acknowledged by his peers through a Teaching Excellence award from UQ in 2013 and the Australian Clinical Pharmacy Award from The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia in 2007.
Neil was appointed to the new role of Director, Interprofessional education in 2019.
