Enhancing Behavioural Support for Children with Hearing Loss: A Family-Centred Approach Using Experience-Based Co-design. 

Researchers from The University of Queensland are exploring the unique behavioural issues professionals and caregivers of children with permanent hearing loss face. 

This project is currently in the first phase of a series of studies aiming to develop more tailored support to address behaviour in young children who wear hearing devices. 

We are now recruiting participants for the first phase of this project, seeking to gather and understand the experiences of families and hearing care professionals. Our goal is to explore the nuances of managing behaviour, along with identifying barriers and facilitators to providing and accessing support for these challenges.

What's involved?

If you are interested in participating, a member of the research team will contact you to choose a time for a 1-hour individual interview. Interviews will be via a web-based platform (e.g. Microsoft Teams or Zoom) or face-to-face on campus at the University of Queensland, St Lucia.

Our studies

There are 2 studies in this phase of the research project:

Study 1 - Caregivers

We want to talk to caregivers of children who are 2-5 years old and wear a hearing device.

You are eligible for this study if:

• You are in Australia.
• Your child is between 2-5 years old.
• Has a hearing loss.
• Wears a hearing device (e.g. hearing aids or cochlear implants)

Study 2 – Professionals

We want to talk to a wide range of professionals across Australia including, but not limited to: Audiologists, Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf and Paediatricians.

You are eligible for this study if:

• You are in Australia.
• You work with children between 2-5 years old.
• You work with children with hearing loss and wear a hearing device.
