What is this research about?
You are invited to participate in a research study that aims to investigate the potential use of driving simulators in clinical practice for individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury (TBI).
The study seeks to understand your perspectives of the potential of driving simulators for rehabilitation in clinical practice.
The aims of this project are to:
- Investigate clinician perspectives of the use of driving simulators in rehabilitation following traumatic brain injury (TBI).
- Investigate the perspectives of consumers with a lived experience of TBI of the use of driving simulators in TBI rehabilitation.
- Identify priorities for future research.
What will you do?
If you agree to participate, you will:
- Take part in a small group discussion (focus group) with other individuals who have lived experience of TBI or are rehabilitation clinicians.
- You can choose to have an individual interview if you prefer (this can be discussed at the time of scheduling the focus group, or interview session).
- During the focus group discussion or interview, you will be asked to share your thoughts, opinions, and experiences related to the use of driving simulators in driving rehabilitation.
- Trained facilitators will guide the discussion using a set of open-ended questions.
- It is anticipated that the focus group session will run for a maximum of 2 hours.
- You will be offered the opportunity to attend in-person at the RECOVER Injury Research Centre, Level 1, STARS Hospital, Herston, Queensland (refreshments provided), or online via videoconferencing software (e.g. ZOOM) and you will be compensated for your time.
Who can participate?
You are invited to participate as either a:
- Consumer with lived experience of TBI (i.e. individuals who have experienced a TBI).
- Rehabilitation clinician from the community with expertise in TBI rehabilitation and/or driving assessment (for example, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, neuropsychologists).
