Are you interested in understanding more about your body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness level and cardiovascular health?

Physical activity and weight management are important components of reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

This study is looking at the links between cardiorespiratory fitness, physical activity levels, body composition and novel early markers of cardiovascular disease risk. Understanding these links will enable researchers to determine future targets for lifestyle therapy to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

You will undertake a comprehensive assessment of fitness, body composition and cardiovascular disease risk across three visits to the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences. These visits include: a fitness test, a blood test, body composition scans [dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)] and assessments of your blood vessels via ultrasound.

Participant benefits:

  • Free body composition assessment (fat mass, lean mass, abdominal fat, liver fat)
  • Free maximal exercise test
  • Free cardiovascular risk assessment score
  • Free vascular assessment
  • $100 gift card for your time and associated travel costs upon completion of the three study visits.

Eligibility

You are potentially eligible for this study if you are:

25–69 years old with a waist circumference measuring 80 cm or more for women and 94 cm or more for men and not currently doing regular physical activity or exercise.
