Weekend drinking in Queensland cities dropped during lockdown

Queenslanders drank less alcohol during April's pandemic lockdown, but consumption bounced back by June, while ice use increased in regional areas but dropped in the state's cities.

The latest data from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission's National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program sampled wastewater in April and June across the country, finding changes in how and when Australians used drugs.

In partnership with the University of Queensland and the University of South Australia, the report tracks illicit drug use, providing government agencies, researchers and policing bodies with key data about drug use patterns.

UQ’s Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences researcher Dr Ben Tscharke and UQ’s National Centre for Youth Substance Use Research Professor Wayne Hall spoke with the Brisbane Times about the report's results.
