Today, we're celebrating Allied Health Professions Day! Join us as we introduce you to some of our UQ lecturers and graduates who have dedicated their careers to the allied health profession.
Allied Health Professions Day is an annual event celebrated in October. It's a day dedicated to honouring those in the allied health profession and recognising the invaluable contributions they make to our well-being.
This year's theme, 'Stronger Together,' underscores the benefits of multidisciplinary team-based care. While the importance of allied health professionals in improving the health and well-being of all Australians is widely recognised, the ongoing healthcare system reform now fully acknowledges the economic and clinical value of multidisciplinary care.
UQ prepares future allied health professionals to excel in multidiscipinary teams through interprofessional education and practice, including the opportunity to undertake rural placements that foster collaboration and a better understanding of healthcare teamwork for high-quality care in rural areas.
But what exactly is Allied Health?
Allied health comprises of a diverse group of professionals who are not nurses, midwives, doctors, or dentists, but who work collaboratively in healthcare teams across various other settings. These professionals are instrumental in helping you maintain your physical and mental health.
Their services encompass diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Among them, you'll find specialists like Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Occupational Therapists, Audiologists, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counsellors, Pharmacists, and Dietitians.
On Allied Health Professions Day, we highlight the crucial role played by these dedicated professionals and their impact on our healthcare journey.
