Bio

Dr Jenna Taylor has a PhD in Exercise Physiology from The University of Queensland and recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic with the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. She is now a Lecturer in Clinical Exercise Physiology with the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences at UQ and heads up the Physiology and Ultrasound Laboratory for Science and Exercise (PULSE). She has extensive clinical experience working as an exercise physiologist and dietitian within cardiac rehabilitation settings. Broadly, her research interests involve the effect of exercise training and intensity on improving cardiovascular and brain health, in the settings of healthy ageing and risk reduction for cardiovascular disease and vascular dementia. She is currently the PI on an NIH-funded Clinical Trial (R21AG073726) investigating the influence of exercise training and intensity on cognitive function and cerebral blood flow regulation in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Vascular ageing refers to the age-related deterioration in the structure and/or function of blood vessels that is accelerated by cardiovascular risk factors, predominately high blood pressure. This can impact many blood vessel systems throughout the body; however, a particular focus of Dr Taylor’s work is how vascular ageing influences the risk of cardiovascular disease and vascular dementia, and how exercise and other interventions can improve vascular health. This webinar will provide an overview of vascular ageing physiology, the impact of vascular ageing on our heart and brain, markers for early detection, and the role exercise plays in healthy ageing by modifying or delaying this vascular deterioration.

About Healthy Ageing Initiative webinar series

The Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences' Healthy Ageing Initiative is a growing community of practice around healthy ageing, incorporating research, research training, curriculum development, student activities, and community engagement and partnerships.

The Healthy Ageing Initiative webinar series, hosted by Initiative Director, Professor Nancy A Pachana, will cover a diverse range of topics in the area of healthy ageing.
