Dr Karan Gulati from UQ’s School of Dentistry will showcase a simple and cost-effective solution to challenges associated with the success of dental implants, specially in patients with ongoing conditions: osteoporosis, diabetes and poor oral hygiene. Nano-engineered dental implants will enhance implant-tissue integration and release drugs to reduce bacterial infection. The research aims to minimize dental implant failure, with less frequent dentist visits (overall reduced costs) and quicker healing times.

About Dr Karan Gulati

Dr Gulati is an NHMRC Early Career Fellow at the University of Queensland. His main research focus is surface modification of dental implants to achieve long term success specially in compromised patient conditions.
