UQ launches Queensland Aphasia Research Centre

29 April 2022

Professor David Copland Director of the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre featured in a Ten News First story about the launch of the centre.

“Aphasia affects the ability to speak, to read, to write or to understand spoken language,” Professor Copland said.

“It really is ground-breaking, it’s a game-changer for people with aphasia.

“It will provide opportunities that haven’t been available to people with aphasia up until now."

QARC is the first aphasia centre in Australia that is partnered with a health service, Metro North Health.

Thanks to a $1 million gift from the Bowness Family Foundation and $500,000 from an anonymous donor, the Centre was established in partnership with Metro North Health as part of the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Services Education and Research Alliance.
