The health benefits of owning a pet

28 April 2022

Professor Nancy Pachana from UQ’s School of Psychology featured on ABC Radio Afternoons talking about how owning a pet could change our lives for the better.

"There is a study in the United States, the health and retirement study that followed people over long period of time, including older adults," Professor Nancy Pachana said.

"They gathered information about whether people had pets and did cognitive tests.

"From almost 1400 people, over half of those people owned pets and what they found was that, over time, especially for the long term pet owners that people did better on cognitive tests relative to the people who didn't own pets."
