The University of Queensland has ranked in the global top 50 for Sports-related subjects, Dentistry, Psychology, Nursing and Pharmacy and Pharmacology in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject.
UQ maintained its position as second in the world and first in Australia for sports-related courses, underscoring the University’s role in helping Queensland to prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In addition, the university is second in Australia for Dentistry with a ranking of #33, an increase from #51-80 in 2023, and third in Australia for Pharmacy and Pharmacology with a ranking of #30.
UQ's Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences Executive Dean Professor Louise Hickson congratulated the exceptional work of staff across the Faculty who contributed to the results.
“These results are a reflection of the world-class research and teaching capabilities across the numerous schools and centres within the Faculty,” Professor Hickson said.
“To remain number one in Australia and two in the world for sports-related subjects is a significant achievement and demonstrates the dedication of our educators and researchers in this space.”
The QS World University Rankings by Subject are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject.
The subject areas in which rankings are conducted are not fully comprehensive and do not, for example, include rankings in many areas of allied health where the faculty also has world-class strengths.
The rankings measure a university’s performance across a number of indicators including academic reputation, teaching quality and research output.
The 2024 ranking analysed subject areas across 1,561 institutions using data including academic and employer reputation, citations to research papers, the H-Index of research, and international research networks.
