The UQ Language Neuroscience Lab are seeking healthy young adults for a study on music and speech processing.

Your participation will contribute to improving our understanding of whether the brain processes music and language differently as we age.

This study will involve two sessions at The University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research, located at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Prior to the first session, participants will be screened for eligibility through a short telephone interview. If you are eligible to participate, you will be invited to attend the first session which will involve brief hearing, language, and music assessments. The second session will involve an MRI brain scan while completing language and music listening tasks.

The duration of the entire experiment is expected to be about 2-3 hours.

Participant benefits

Participants will receive $30 at the scan session for their time and effort.

Eligibility

  • 18-35 years old
  • Have English as a primary language
  • No history of neurological disease, mental illness, head trauma, or stroke
  • No chronic respiratory, cardiovascular, or immunocompromised medical conditions
  • No metal present in the body which would be unsafe in an MRI scanner.
