Positive growth or life lessons identified by older adults using COVID-19 as a context
Have you experienced positive growth or recognised life lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic?
UQ researchers are seeking individuals aged 65 years and over to discuss the life lessons they have recognised or personal growth gained their COVID-19 pandemic experiences. You do not have to have had COVID-19 to participate, as we have all been impacted by the pandemic
What is involved?
Interested individuals will complete a brief online survey that should take no more than 5 minutes to complete (a paper survey can be provided if desired). This survey will include questions regarding demographics, English fluency, the extent of personal growth or lessons recognised that arose from COVID-19 pandemic experience/s, and some psychological resources. Those with a particular combination of psychological resources will be contacted to arrange a convenient time for a recorded online or phone interview that is expected to take approximately one-hour.
The interview will include demographic questions followed by some open-ended questions relating to your COVID experience generally, the stressors your faced and how you coped, the impact of personal weaknesses and strengths, and any ‘silver linings’ linked to your COVID-19 experience (personal growth, lessons recognised, benefits, etc). You will have access to the broad questions we aim to discuss ahead of the interview.
Why?
This study aims to better understand the individual experience of adults aged 65 years and over who have experienced personal growth and/or identified life lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and have a particular combination of psychological resources.
Eligibility
- Adults aged 65 years and over residing in Australia who are fluent in English
- You do not have to have had COVID-19 to participate, as we have all been impacted by the pandemic
Participant benefits
