The purpose of this research is to understand the perspectives of athletes' participation in court or field sports with patellar tendinopathy.

There are two studies:

  1.  Aims to understand the perspectives of healthcare professionals on athlete's participation in court or field sport with patellar tendinopathy.
  2. Aims to understand the perspectivies of athletes on participation in court or field sport with patellar tendinopathy.

Healthcare professionals study:

If you agree to participate in this research, you will need to attend an interview (approximately 30 minutes) via video conferencing software (Zoom Video Communications) and complete a short online survey (approximately 5 minutes).

In the interview you will be asked questions about how patellar tendinopathy impacts athletes participation in court or field sports (e.g., Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, and Football codes etc.), how you determine when athletes participation in court or field sports needs to be modified or when athletes need to be removed from participating in court or field sports, as well as how you determine when athletes can return to participating in court or field sports.

Athlete study:

If you agree to participate in this research, you will need to attend a clinical examination (approximately 20-minutes) via video conferencing software (Zoom Video Communications), attend an interview (approximately 30 minutes) via video conferencing software (Zoom Video Communications), and complete a short online survey (approximately 5 minutes). In the inteview you will be asked questions about how patellar tendinopathy affects your participation in court or field sports.

Eligibility 

Healthcare professionals study:

  1. Be over 18 years of age
  2. Able to read and communicate in English
  3. Are qualified/registered as a healthcare professional
  4. Have more than 5-years post qualification/registration experience researching or treating athletes with patellar tendinopathy

Athlete study:

  1. Be over 18 years of age
  2. Able to read and communicate in English
  3. Be participating in court or field sports (e.g., Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, and Football codes etc.)
  4. Have been told by a health professional that you have patellar tendinopathy (also called patellar tendinitis, patellar tendinosis or jumpers' knee), or have pain in the front of your knee that you believe is due to patellar tendinopathy
  5. Have symptoms of patellar tendinopathy lasting more than 3-months in duration
  6. Not have pain elsewhere in your lower limb (e.g., hip, knee, or ankle/foot) or low back in the previous 3 months that affected your participation in sport
  7. Not have any injury to your lower limb (e.g., anterior cruciate ligament injury, or fracture) that caused you to stop participating in sport for ≥6 months in the previous 5 years.
