Adults' language choices when interacting with children have previously been shown to contribute to Theory of Mind (ToM) development in early childhood.

ToM allows us to recognise and understand both our own and others’ mental states and how these mental states can result in certain behaviours.

As such, gaining a greater understanding of this critical social-cognitive achievement and the factors that impact its development is vital to developmental psychology.

What does participation in this research involve?

Participation in this research involves completing an online questionnaire via Qualtrics in your own time.

This questionnaire will ask demographic questions (e.g., age, parental status), twelve vignettes about interactions with a child, and a series of questions about how you navigate your social world.

If you have a child, this study does not require you to have your child present, nor does your child need to complete any part of this research. Completing this questionnaire will take no longer than 20 minutes.
