UQ researchers are seeking veterans to take part in the 'Veteran Connection Programme' (VCP), a program developed to help veterans reduce the loss of identity and social connection that occurs during transition out of the Defence Forces.

The program also helps to promote participants' wellbeing and supports future goals.

What the programme involves:

  • Two face-to-face sessions at St Lucia, Brisbane (~3 hours)
  • One online session (1 hour)
  • Two short online surveys (10 minutes each)
  • This one online post-programme interview (1 hour)

Eligibility

Ex-military personnel who have separated from the Defence Forces are eligible for the study.

Participant benefits

Early results from the program's first cohort of Royal Australian Navy Clearance Divers indicate that the programme:

  • Improves military-civilian adjustment and reintegration,
  • Improves self-efficacy in managing social identities,
  • Increases well-being, and
  • Decreases loneliness.

Participants taking part in the VCP will also receive a $200 gift card.
